German Conformation Show & Working Titles
VA - Vorzuglich Auslese: Excellent Select Champion Title, the highest attainable award granted at an annual Seiger show in Germany. Awarded to only the few top Champion dogs at the Seiger Show annually.
VA1 - Earned at a BSZS (national breed) Show, VA1 is the highest grade a GSD can achieve aka WORLD CHAMPION.
V - Vorzuglich: Excellent - The award is the standard Championship for excellence of quality. In Germany a dog cannot try for this until it is at least 2 years old, passed a hip x-ray for Dysplasia and passed a Temperament Test. The dog also has a Schutzhund level in Tracking, Obedience and Courage. In addition the dog must have passed a 12 mile Endurance test. If all are passed the dog can enter the show ring to be judged! V rating is awarded to the outstanding GSD with exemplary dentitions and strong character.
SG - Sehr Gut - Very Good (Highest rating for a dog under 2 years of age).
KKL 1 - KörKlasse 1: This breed survey is the top rating that is awarded to dogs that have been breed surveyed and are "Especially Recommended" for breeding; high breeding quality representatives of the breed.
KKL - KörKlasse: This is a breed survey awarded to a dog at a Körung, a specialized event where breed surveys are carried out. A Körung, is a German Shepherd Dog Breed Survey, an evaluation of the breed value of a dog for the improvement, preservation, and advancement of the breed. Having a KKL means the dog is suitable for breeding.
SchHa - Novice Schutzhund obedience and protection (no tracking)
WH - Watch Dog
AD Ausaduerprufung - 12.5 mile jog used to test dogs endurance and physical condition.
BH - Begleithunde - Basic Obedience & Temperament Evaluation. Prerequisite for all Schutzhund titles. Pass or Fail basis.
SchH - Schutzhund - SchH 1 - Novice (Tracking, Obedience & Protection). All must be passed to move to next level.
- SchH 2 - Intermediate (Tracking, Obedience & Protection). All must be passed to next level.
- SchH 3 - Advanced (Tracking, Obedience & Protection). All must be passed to attain title.
IPO/IPG - International Prüfungs-Ordnung (International Trial Rules) - Developed in Germany in early 1900's as a breed suitability test again tests the Tracking, Obedience and Protection levels in the dog. Again, like SchH there are three levels 1,2 & 3
FH 1 - Advanced Tracking title. Dogs must be at least 18 months old and passed the VDH-BH test. (1200 paces for 3 hours)
FH2 - Master Tracking title. Dogs must be at least 20 months and successfully completed FH 1. (2000 paces and 2 hours). Judged from Insufficient - V-Excellent.)
RH 1,2,3 - Rettungshund - Evaluation tests for a dog's suitability for Search & Rescue (SAR)
HGH - Herdengebrauchshund - The German Herding Dog Test.
